The Christian Dress Code

First, let it be settled that we are not under the Old Testament law based on Rom. 6v. 14, and this means that all laws about dressing found in the Old Testament are not applicable to us today. We only draw universal principles from the Old Testament which are applicable today. Gal. 6v. 2 says that we are to keep the law of Christ, NOT the law of Moses. Jesus fulfilled the law of Moses which we could not fulfill. In the law of Christ, we, based on 1 Tim. 2v. 9, are only required to dress decently and appropriately. We are not told what make of clothes women or men should wear. All they are commanded to do is to be decent in their dressing.

Deut. 22v. 5 is not applicable to us today as it is part of the law of Moses. Many people have been condemning women who wear trousers claiming that Deut. 22v. 5 says they should not. That verse does not say which clothes women were wearing or what men were wearing that day when God spoke those words. However, based on the Hebrew culture in those days, trousers were worn by women as under garments. Men wore long robes and short trousers inside as under garments. So, if we were to apply Deut. 22v. 5 as some people suggest, then men would have to stop wearing trousers and women would have to start wearing them as it was in the Old Testament. Also, those claiming to keep Deut 22v. 5 should also keep Deut. 22v. 11 which says a person should not wear a clothe made of two different types of threads.

There are others who are trying to force women to cover their heads and they quote 1 Cor. 11v. 6. That verse only applies to the Churches under Apostle Paul those days. It was a Church tradition and all Churches are different. We are not to force people to keep customs and cultures of other people. As long as they are decently and appropriately dressed, they are free to serve God and no person should condemn them. The fact that a thing was practiced by some people mentioned in the bible does not make it a universal command. In the beginning, God made unisex clothes for Adam And Eve. Both were given long robes and they were comfortable. Who are you to claim that unisex clothes are not godly? Those who condemn women wearing trousers should also tell us why they never complain about other types of clothes like under wears, etc. Male and female under garments are almost similar just like trousers of men and of women are similar. If you cannot wear clothes similar to those of women or men, then remove your under garments which are almost like those of the opposite sex, AND DO IT NOW WHILE I AM WATCHING!!! OK?
